Exhibition Branding: Stamped (and crit)

After initially deciding to name our exhibition Grade 2, based on the fact that Leeds Central Library is a grade 2 listed building. However, after starting to produce physical work for this and liking the receipt idea, we decided this name was not working and had no links to our work and the fact the exhibition was public spaces and print based. We decided to go with stamped because as a group we felt this was more appropriate, especially as we could link this to the events stamping a mark on the history of Leeds. The yellow and blue were chose based on the flag of Leeds, this gives it a strong connection and link to public spaces.

This gif was created for the social media side of the branding, the idea behind this was to show a bit of each students work behind the 's', as there are going to be so many prints being shown in the exhibition this is a good quick way to show a glimpse of all.

The meaning behind these receipt developments is that when it came to curating the exhibition, we decided to split the prints into 5 different categories, history, culture, politics, society and miscellaneous. This would make it easier for us when it came to designing the catalogue as the work could be easily split up into these categories and be identified faster. After creating some lino cuts of 'stamped', we thought this could be incorporated into the invitations, so you bring them to the exhibition and they get stamped. This would reflect the idea of disposability and the interaction with public spaces.

CRIT OF STAMPED

  • The name 'stamped' has a strong link
  • The gif works really well
  • Like the receipt idea with the stamp
  • Receipt idea has a good sense of humour but has been done before and the link to the exhibition is weak
  • Good colour choice
  • GIF idea is good-use peoples work as the image.

  • Receipt and GIF share no visual language
  • Receipts are not stamped they're printed
  • No relevant of receipt
  • Still quite basic and needs a lot more work
  • Looks too sporty/like an American Varsity team
SUGGESTIONS
  • Softer typeface
  • Apply tighter kerning
  • Use different photos to spell stamped for the logo
  • STAMPD or STAMPT
  • 'S' on its own, no shadow
  • Create the logo as stamp
  • Focus on media used of the GIF
