I think it will be useful because it will allow me to see where I'm getting stuck if a brief comes to a holt and where to go from it. It may not be needed for every single brief but at least I know its there for some guidance if needed.

OUGD603: Tell A Lie Brief

Group 17

This is the poster that was created to advertise the deal going on at Belgrave, it was also placed around university as you can see from the image below. This just meant if people didn't see the poster posted on any social platforms then they would see it around university and scan the QR code which would take them to the screen where they would enter their name and email address to sign up.

Once the link was created, it got posted on our Facebook pages to try and encourage more people to sign up to it.

These were the people that signed up with the email, I don't think we expected this many people to do it, which made it worse when having to let people know it was fake.

OUGD503: Module Evaluation

As this is the second time completing this module, it has made it a lot easier as I have been able to get my head around it more and understand what is needed in order to pass the module. Completing the briefs have been quite frustrating as I have enjoyed them and should have put my all in the first time around, however I think I have completed them successfully and to the best ability that I can. The individual practice side of the brief I think is where I have been at my strongest and have enjoyed the most. Creating a response to the penguin book cover competition has been the brief that I have enjoyed the most and definitely want to respond to this brief for a final time within level 6 as book cover design is something that really interests me. I do think the sustainability logo brief was probably my weakest out of the 3 individual practice briefs as I did find that one quite complicated and think I overcomplicated it further myself. Completing the collaborative brief was also something I have really enjoyed and more than I anticipated to as I usually worry about working alongside other people. However, I think this has given me a great opportunity to work with Rosie again for level 6 and help her further with other things. It has also been good for me to use Illustrator within this module as it is something I tend to put off but I know it will be useful in the long term for me to use a lot more instead of Photoshop.

OUGD503: Collaborative Brief Evaluation

These are the final designs for the business cards that both me and Rosie have decided are the most successful designs and should be used for the final ones. I think they both work well together for the front and back of the cards to ensure they will be interesting for clients receiving them and be encouraging for Rosie. Working collaboratively is something that I am not always sure about as it can bring quite a lot of challenges alongside with it and the communication may not always be the best, however it has been really easy to have one to one conversations with Rosie as well as the occasional email interaction. From this I have found that meeting with the person directly makes things so much more straight forward and you can easily discuss any issues or anything that might not be working out.

definitely think this brief is something I will be looking back on within my level 6 briefs because the business cards are yet to be printed out physically and I know that this will be part of Rosie's studio work that she will also be assessed on therefore I know it will be revised by us both. I would also like to have the opportunity to work with Rosie on creating a website as she is yet to have one herself and she has talked about wanting one so people have easy access to look at her work.

OUGD503: Final Business Cards and Feedback

These are the final designs I have chosen for the business cards, both me and Rosie looked through the different design variations and these are the two that she was most impressed with. I would also agree that these designs are probably the ones that have been the most successful and stand out against the others. I like how there is a contrast between the front and back, the front a block colour and the back being a white background but with the pastel paint splatters all over it. I would hope that Rosie would be pleased and excited to hand these out to potential clients so that she may have an opportunity to get work from them.

OUGD503: Card Developments

After our final discussion, I felt this was where I had the best understanding of how to go about the card designs and how the ideas would translate to screen. Rosie mentioned she liked the look of paint splatters on designs so I experimented with this in Photoshop using the brush tool and changing up the pastel colours involved. I think these would act as the back of the business cards and then the information would be on the front.

Above are just experiments of how the front of the business cards would look, I mixed around with the layout and positioning of the information to figure out which worked best in terms of being able to read the information clearly.

OUGD503: Another Discussion

After both of us being unhappy with the initial card designs, we met up again and had a quick brainstorm of further ideas and the colours Rosie had in mind for the card designs.

I also asked what kind of design does she vision seeing on the cards and I wrote down illustrations, polka dots and paint splatters that act as a camera flash. It was made clear not to use any illustrations of cameras because thats when it becomes cliche and unoriginal.

OUGD503: Initial Card Design

After discussion about these designs it was instantly decided that the hand drawn lettering wasn't going to work and it didn't quite look right because these cards need to be really professional looking so sticking with digital font would be best, this will also help when it comes to the printing of the cards.

Next step:
Figure out back design
Decide on colours

OUGD503: Font Discussion

After putting together a few different fonts, I sent over this to Rosie and asked her to cross out any ones she instantly didn't like and to leave a few that she liked so I could experiment with using them on the business cards.

These probably won't be the final layouts of the cards but I wanted to get the final opinion on which font Rosie would like to be on the back of her card- I chose a typewriter font because its something quite fun and interesting compared to the style of fonts that get used all the time.

OUGD503: Business Card Research

As I am designing a business card for a photographer, I think its really important to get Rosie's personality to shine through and be reflected onto the cards because they are being used to get her jobs and work but they're also a personal thing and you would want your potential client to get a positive vibe from them.

Questions:

How would you describe your style of work?

I would describe my style of work as high fashion style photography. I like to have good location, styling and makeup in my imagery and like to be creative rather than doing more straight e-commerce fashion shoots. I like to go bright and bold with colours and elements within my shoot so my images stand out.

If someone were to ask you 'what is your job/what do you do?' what would you say?

I would say that my job is a freelance photographer. As I prefer to shoot fashion photography personally, but still do other commercial jobs in-between.

What are your main values of your work?

The main values of my work is to show the model’s personality through my images, even if they have to morph into a different character for a shoot. I still want to show what makes the model unique.

Describe yourself in 5 words

Creative, Colourful, Hardworking, Loyal, Ditsy

OUGD503: Business Card Research

After discussing with Rosie and her saying she doesn't want a typical clique looking photography business card, I thought I would look at what is already out there in order to avoid it as that would be going completely against what she has asked for.

This is the kind of thing that seemed to be the typical generic photographers business card, they aren't very imaginative and exciting and it seems like Rosie wants to have something a little more different.

Standard business card size.

OUGD503: Initial Communication

For a starting point, I emailed Rosie and asked her what kind of style does she want her business cards to have, as this is a collaborative brief, I do want/need the input and influence of the other person as the design is being created for them and with something like business cards they need to have their personality shown through them also.

These are the selection of images that Rosie included within this email that she wants the business cards to have, she said something that isn't the clique photography business card so I need to look what she means by this in order to avoid this from happening.

Above are a selection of photographs taken by Rosie so I can reference them back incase needed within the design process.

Initial notes taken from meeting with Rosie as I forgot to ask her on the initial email what information she wanted including on the business card. This is the most important thing and I need to ensure this information is made clear on the cards because it will be used for clients and to help her get work and jobs.
