WHAT IS INDIE FOLK?

Where folk meets indie... These are two different genres merged together to form this new micro-genre, it's basically modern folk with lots of country and rock influences. Although indie folk is acoustic to nature along with story-telling elements, its not quite the traditional folk music. Indie folk, mixes the acoustic guitar melodies of traditional folk music with contemporary instrumentation.

Indie folk has been around since the 90's, this was when some singer-songwriters began playing music influenced by both folk, country and rock music. However, it wasn't until the following decade when the genre of music fully took off, this was when artists from the indie rock genre began taking cues from folk music.
