OUGD504- Front cover development

Figure 3

Figures 1-3 are all separate variations of each other, only slightly varying the position of 'Kanata' to see which layout works best for the front cover. There will be no imagery on the front cover and I have decided to keep it really minimal to play on the idea of the juxtaposition and misconception of a typical Canadian guidebook. If the cover is left minimal and almost clean/stylised looking then the readers who go to read and look at this book won't expect the content that is inside of it.

Figures 4-7 are further experiments of various front cover layout designs. I have kept them all again very simple but slightly varied the colours of the text and footnotes, within figure 4 and 5 I thought it might be a good idea to place a larger maple leaf icon behind the title as readers may not be aware what the word Kanata means or make the connection the publication is about Canada. However, when this idea was executed I didn't really like the look of the design and I have decided to keep the design very minimal and contemporary looking. This design will also appeal to the publications target audience as young adults are more drawn to modern looking designs compared to a busy and filled up front cover of what you may find on a typical guidebook.
