After reconsidering her idea, Emma has finalised her content to the above image. During 'Designer Speed Dating', we were able to discuss with other peers the design ideas and ask questions for feedback and further research. The actual content was at question during this as Emma felt the images she had obtained over summer research did not match up to the content as she was originally going to create a guide book based on the places in Canada she had taken the photographs from. However, as we were told not to create a typical guide book and to create something not as obvious, it was the idea of the misconceptions of Canada that came about.
In terms of thinking about how the book will be put together, layout, design etc it will be important to make sure that they all link and relate to the content to give the design a purpose. One idea would be to play on the fact the book is about misconceptions, so think about what you would usually expect from a Canadian guide book, such as a perfect layout/grid, the kind of images you would find and the quality of images that would be printed inside. Another idea would be to play on the idea of expectation vs reality e.g what you would expect from the point about the weather- the weather is always cold when in fact it isn't, so create a warm toned layout and consider the colour.
After discussing with Dom the ideas for the layout and design, I decided to research into typical Canadian guidebooks to get more of an idea what people would usually expect when they go to buy a guidebook for Canada and to get an idea of their layout and design.
Obviously, this is not what I intend the publication to look like, but its useful to look into if I'm going to go down the path of expectation vs reality, the ideas that people may have in their head of what the layout and design 'should' look like. This links to the content of the publication as inside will be what people think about Canadians vs what is true.
