OUGD603: Brief 1- Colour Swatches and Typography

Colour swatches
These are the colours I will be using within my designs as they all go with the aesthetic that I envision them to have. They're made up of pinks, reds and whites, some of the tones are a lot bolder than others but I think the colour will change depending on what the card says, if its a bold statement then I think it will be more effective with a bolder colour. This also goes for the lighter colours, if the statement/quote is softer and friendlier.

OUGD603: Brief 1- Quote/Card Design Planning

Brainstorm of quote ideas to go on the greetings cards.

Fave Quotes:

You are lovely
You are radiant
You got this
You're killing it
Self love club
You are glowing

OUGD603: Brief 1- Further Research

THE INSECURE GIRLS' CLUB

The Insecure Girls' Club is an Instagram account run by fashion blogger Olivia Purvis, she set up this Instagram platform in September 2018.

"The club is about reclaiming the ‘I’ word and opening up about the worries, woes and challenges of everyday life- little and large- in a shame free, open space. Because being insecure shouldn’t be a sign of weakness, and being open about our insecurities is something that connects us all, because hey, trust me- we all feel like it. It’s not about wearing it like a badge of honour, but owning these moments. It’s about giving each other a voice and showing girls who can’t believe that ‘she feels like that too?!’ When in fact it’s something we all very much have in common."

This is how she described the page on her very first Instagram account, its very female empowerment based and focuses on highlighting female insecurities but trying to turn them into a positive and how women may all share the same insecurities. It's also aimed to help females who may feel insecure about things to understand they are not alone in feeling like that.

I thought this would be a really good page to look at for my research as it is an incredibly positive space where females can go to in order to find some comfort and positivity regarding each other and a space where they should feel comfortable to go to if they want to discuss any insecurities or issues they may have/be feeling.

These are examples of some of the posts on the page, they look at females and talk about them in a positive light.

OUGD603: Brief 1- Existing Imagery

The imagery I have gathered together are the kind of aesthetic that I intend the cards to have. I was originally thinking of having really cute illustrated cards, however I thought it would be a nice idea to create a card that the person receiving it could perhaps frame or hang on the wall and by having big bold typography they can act as a little inspirational quote for the individual to have.

All of these designs have big bold typography, they're not overly colourful but tend to have two block colours, the typography and then the background. The short and snappy positive quotes are really nice for girls to receive because they will instantly put a smile on their face and are nice to receive from a friend

OUGD603: Brief 1- Greetings Cards Research

To start of the research for this brief, I am looking at existing websites/shops that sell greetings cards, but more specifically the kinds of places that I think would be selling the kinds of cards I intend to create/ places I would want the cards to be sold in order to be a success.

OHH DEER

OH DEER would be a really good website to have these cards sold on as they sell a range of greetings cards for all occasions not just the standard birthdays. They're a really popular stationary company with a good online social media presence also, which will be really beneficial. I also think my work style is very similar to what is sold on this website so they would fit in really well.

PAPERCHASE

Paperchase is also another stationary company that sells a large range of greetings cards for all kinds of occasions. I do think my style of work would fit well within this company also as they have various kinds of designs for their cards.

HALLMARK

Hallmark are probably the largest greeting cards company, however after doing some research on their website they only really have the most obvious occasions like birthdays, anniversaries and new babies. I think this company is a lot more corporate compared to the others and would be the kind of cards that aren't really unique.

PAPERSMITHS

The finally company I thought to research was Papersmiths, they are also an online stationary shop with a good range of greetings cards. They are all designed by various artists like Oh Deer, which I think is a really nice way for artists and designers to get their work known.
